EBF3 - Electron Beam Freeform Fabrication 1-Million

NASA has developed a manufacturing system objects measures to electron beams, the method called Electron beam freefor m fabricati on (EBF3) uses electron beams to melt material in a vacuum, you can create any mechanical part for a fraction of the cost of previous methods.

Normally an aircraft manufacturer uses a block of about 2,720 kg of titanium and machinery are reduced to a part of 13
6 Kg, leaving 2585 kg material that needs to be rec iclado and also employ several thousands of gallons of cutting fluid in the process.
With EBF3, is built m isma part with only 159 Kg of titanium and only 23 kg waste for the final configuration, in addition to using less electricity in the process.
NASA hopes not only utilis this method for aircraft manufacturers, but someday, astronauts manufacture spare parts in remote missions.
