Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema - A Favourite Custom
Renowned Victorian artist, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema was born in 1836. Named after his godfather, Soul, from his childhood was his inclination painting, soon entering renowned art academies. His work soon became well appreciated and recognized, especially when exposed in 1861, one of his most representative works "The education of children Clovis" which Alma seeks to convey the emotion that bubbles up inside burning man, always describe images and scenarios of classical antiquity.
His main inspiration was an ancient world seen through the eyes of a Victorian painter who worked to create environments that housed female characters with bodies and faces delicate and beautiful. The position as suggestive of the naked lady lying on its side on skin in "In the Tepidarium" is a clear example.

In "A Favourite Custom" You can see the skill with which he worked painting the marble, being therefore nicknamed by his followers: "The Marbelous Painter"-The Painter Marmolilloso. In addition, fragile bodies immersed in water, alluring gestures and postures, figures that show a soft, ethereal dynamics.
At the age of 81 years Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema was given the title 'gentleman', by Queen Victoria, who takes his own to give birth anniversary of this title in honor of their lifetime art.
